How Setting Intentions Can Help DEIB Leaders in 2023

Happy 2023! I'm writing this on New Year's Day as the ink dries on my own resolutions, and I'm sure that "intentions" have been heavy on your own mind (and inbox) this week, too.

The first week of January, after all, is filled with messages about "new year, new you!", "leveling up", and all sorts of other takeaways about how you can change yourself and your organization completely, overnight, by virtue of it being the New Year.

And yet, we know: change -- true change, the kind that actually results in a permanently different way of being and therefore doing -- is a long and slow process.

It's scary, of course, for leaders to imagine embarking upon these long and slow processes without a clear idea of what will be expected or required of them throughout, and without any idea of how (or even whether) it will work.

The underlying missing piece here is clarity. Which is where my gift to you comes in.

What does it look like to find clarity as a leader?

BE MORE with Anu is a small team with a huge, huge vision... which means I'm very, very familiar with the idea that we can do anything we set our hearts, minds, and pocketbooks to, but that we can't do everything. In fact, leadership requires laser-sharp clarity and focus. It requires that we have a great understanding of exactly what we want to achieve, and that we're able to hone in on that amid busy, distracting landscapes.

In order to achieve this clarity, we have to start with setting intentions... ones which stem directly from our values, and how we want to show up in the world.

To celebrate this season of renewal and rebirth, I'm sharing a guided meditation around setting values-based intentions, completely free, which can also be accessed on your phones on the Insight Timer meditation app.

"Where the mind goes, energy flows."

Intention-setting can be a truly profound, and even freeing, process, but it must start from within. I hope that it's helpful to you as you move into 2023... and if you found that it was helpful, feel free to share it with colleagues! Building a world free of bias is going to take all of us. Let's do it!
