Here we are, at the end of another year. One that has left many of us reflecting on our accomplishments while remembering the challenges we, as a collective, experienced - from the continued murders of Black Americans, to Stop Asian Hate and Critical Race Theory, on top of grappling with the effects of COVID-19. What holds us together is not found in hatred or fear, but in solidarity. Together, we rose above and welcomed opportunities that allowed us to imagine a future that as our community members — Dr. Bonnie Duran, Tanya Lopez, and Dr. Larry Ward — envision can honor all our relations.
As bell hooks said, “To be truly visionary we have to root our imagination in our concrete reality while simultaneously imagining possibilities beyond that reality.”
We reaffirm our commitment to supporting organizations in breaking bias and building workplaces and communities where everyone belongs.
2021 was a year of scaling for us. Both internally and externally, we celebrated new milestones of bringing the breadth and depth of our programs, curricula, and resources to individuals and organizations:
We added three new team members, allowing us to develop courses, services, and keynote content that support behavior change in a safe, shame-free, healing space.
We launched 3 new offerings: a live “DEIB 101” course for companies, a self-directed meditation course for students to delve deeper into the relationship between mindfulness and bias, and a free four-day DEI Challenge, which over 300 folks have joined.
We signed a landmark, multi-year contract with the American Medical Association that allowed us to advance our mission of transforming racial bias in healthcare at the highest level nationally.
We executed a new engagement with Echoing Green to help them weave equity into their rigorous selection process for social entrepreneurs.
We hosted monthly community events where we held space for people who joined from over 30 states and four continents to heal from the effects of bias.
Looking at our impact, we are so proud to share that in the last 12 months we:
Reached over 13,000 people who either attended our events or enrolled in our courses.
Engaged 57 organizations, including the United Nations and Kaiser Permanente.
Practiced over 250,000 collective minutes of mindfulness.
Were featured in publications like Newsweek, Fast Company, and Yahoo News.
